The office is docked in a residential building in Barkat Nagar area. It is a pretty small building (it took me two hours to locate it on my first day). The Jaipur office is headed by Ms. Kavita Srivastsava, although she has various volunteers who help her with the core work. Application procedure. Internship contact details I had got to know about PUCL from various websites that sited it to be a great place for a first year internship. I had emailed my resume alongwith my SOP at kavisriv@gmail.com Duration in weeks. No. of days/week. Timings I interned for about 4 weeks. Timings are variable. Most days you will have to report at 9 am. But in case there is field work, one might have to come even early accordingly. It’s a usually a 6 day/week internship. You will most probably get the Sunday off unless there are reports/ field work/ guest lectures assigned for that day. Accommodation: how, where, how was it? Since I am from Jaipur, I didn’t really need the accommodation. But in case you need a PG, there are plenty available right next to the office (since its in a residential area). In fact, Ms. Kavita will herself help you locate a PG. First impression. First day, formalities etc. The first impression isn’t really great. It is a very compact office with loads of books and files and a couple of computers. But all that makes sense once you realize that PUCL is non-profit NGO. The very moment I entered the office I was asked to write an appointment letter for the record. Thereafter, I proceeded to another room in the office where the other interns were seated. We were told that we had to proceed to an AIDWA meet. Main tasks PUCL looks into myriad issues. During my internship we covered a Thana report, a survey on Pak-Hindu Refugees, a study on implementation and impact of PCPNDT act. We were also shown various movies and documentaries to acquaint us with the working and interests of PUCL. We also got to meet many people who were doing exemplary social work in various fields. We met Mr. Prem Krishan Sharma (President, PUCL Jaipur) who is an eminent Labour Law advocate, Mr. Ashok Khandelwal (eminent economist), Mr. Radha Kant Saxena, Justice R.S. Chauhan (HC judge), Mr. Hindu Singh Sodha etc. Work environment, people Ms. Kavita Srivastava is a monster (in her very own words) when it comes to deadlines and laid back attitude, but quite honestly is the most dedicated, hard working woman I have ever come across.
